North Myrtle Beach Shagger’s Hall of Fame

North Myrtle Beach Hotels: Shaggers Hall of Fame Ocean Drive

The Story of The Shag...
The Shag is a legendary fast dance, derived from the jitterbug, that grew up in the red clay hills and coastal dunes of the Carolinas. In the late 30's and early 40's, the Shag was performed to the big band music of the Swing Era. Later, shaggers adopted the early rhythm and blues beats that would eventually become rock-n-roll. Although the Shag weathered a decline in popularity in the 1950's, it experienced a resurgence in the early 1970's.

Today the Shag is widely recognized as a Southern original art form. Since its beginning, North Myrtle Beach was at the heart of the Shag's evolution, and today, Ocean Drive Beach & Golf Resort is the home of The Shagger's Hall of Fame, and the legendary Spanish Galleon Night Life.

The Shagger's Hall of Fame is number 9 on the Main Level Map.
